Captain
Jake Anderson
Biography

Fisherman. Captain. Father. Survivor.
A man who never stopped fighting.
A Life Shaped by the Sea
Born on September 16, 1980, in Washington State, Jake Anderson was destined to find his way to the ocean. He was raised by Donna and Keith in a loving family with his five older sisters. A sixth-generation fisherman, Jake grew up surrounded by the traditions, challenges, and extraordinary beauty of life at sea. But his journey to becoming one of the most recognizable captains on television was anything but straightforward.
Before making his name in commercial fishing, Jake dreamed of becoming a professional skateboarder. Talented and determined, he pursued that passion until injuries and personal struggles sent his life in an unexpected direction. What followed were some of the darkest years of his life, marked by addiction, homelessness, and the difficult road toward recovery.
Yet, if there is one thing that defines Jake Anderson, it is his refusal to give up.
In 2007, Jake joined the F/V Northwestern as a greenhorn under the command of legendary Captain Sig Hansen, making his debut on Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch. What began as an opportunity to rebuild his life became the foundation of an extraordinary career. Through years of relentless work, determination, and a willingness to learn, Jake rose through the ranks from inexperienced deckhand to deck boss, eventually earning his captain's license.
His ambition, however, came at a tremendous personal cost. While pursuing his dreams, Jake experienced heartbreaking losses, including the deaths of his beloved sister Chelsea and his father Keith. The loss of Captain Phil Harris, a mentor and an important figure in his life, was another painful chapter. Much of his grief unfolded in front of millions of television viewers, who witnessed not only his professional growth but also the very human struggles behind it.
Rather than allowing those tragedies to define his future, Jake found the strength to keep moving forward.
From Greenhorn to Captain
In 2015, Jake achieved a lifelong ambition when he took command of the F/V Saga. The transition from deckhand to captain brought new responsibilities, enormous pressure, and lessons that could only be learned on the unforgiving waters of the Bering Sea.
Over the years, audiences watched him grow into a determined and passionate leader. His journey was never about perfection. There were setbacks, difficult decisions, and moments when everything he had worked for seemed at risk. But there were also victories, friendships, and the profound satisfaction of building a career through perseverance and hard work.
After losing the Saga and later leaving the Titan Explorer, Jake embarked on another remarkable chapter by taking the helm of the legendary F/V Cornelia Marie. The vessel, forever associated with the late Captain Phil Harris, holds a special place in the history of Deadliest Catch. For Jake, commanding such an iconic boat represents both a tremendous honor and an opportunity to help carry forward an extraordinary legacy.
Today, with nearly two decades of experience on Deadliest Catch, Jake continues to demonstrate that the true measure of a captain is not simply the storms he conquers, but the courage with which he faces them.
Beyond the Bering Sea
Although millions know him as Captain Jake Anderson, there is much more to the man behind the wheelhouse.
In his autobiography, Relapse, Jake shares his deeply personal journey through addiction, devastating loss, recovery, and redemption. His willingness to speak openly about his past has helped inspire others facing their own battles, proving that even the most difficult beginnings do not have to determine how a story ends.
Away from commercial fishing, Jake has maintained his lifelong passion for skateboarding, an important part of his identity long before television fame entered his life. He also values the simple pleasures that often become precious to someone who spends so much time away from home: laughter, friendship, meaningful conversations, and moments with the people he loves.
Behind the tough exterior of a Bering Sea fisherman is a man with a big heart, a fierce sense of loyalty, and an appreciation for the people who have helped shape his life.
Family, Love & New Beginnings
Of all the roles Jake has taken on throughout his life, none is more important to him than being a father. His three sons, Aiden, Cadence, and Luka, are his greatest pride and joy. They are his motivation through the longest fishing seasons, his happiness when he returns to shore, and a constant reminder of what truly matters beyond the demands of his career. Despite the challenges of a profession that takes him away from home for extended periods, his love for his boys remains at the heart of everything he does.
For 17 years, Jake shared his life with his former wife, Jenna Anderson, who stood beside him through some of his greatest triumphs and most difficult moments. Together, they built a family, raised three wonderful sons, and shared a journey filled with memories, challenges, and personal growth. Although life eventually led them in different directions, Jake continues to hold deep respect and appreciation for Jenna. He recognizes the sacrifices she made, the support she gave him throughout their years together, and, above all, the devoted mother she is to their children. Their relationship has evolved, but the family they created will always connect them. Today, they remain on good terms, sharing a mutual commitment to their children's happiness and well-being.
As life continues to unfold, Jake has also found a new chapter of happiness alongside his girlfriend, Daisy Willems, a Belgian entrepreneur with whom he shares a love of adventure, travel, and making memories together. Their relationship brings a new dimension to his life, filled with companionship, affection, and the excitement of discovering what the future holds.
For Jake, family is not simply about the paths people take together, but also about the love, respect, and connections they choose to preserve when those paths change.
The Journey Continues
Jake Anderson's story has never been one of easy victories or a perfectly planned life. It is a story of falling down and finding the courage to stand again. Of losing people he loved, overcoming personal demons, chasing seemingly impossible dreams, and learning that success means very little without people to share it with.
From a young skateboarder with big ambitions to a respected fishing captain navigating some of the world's most dangerous waters, Jake has lived a life of extraordinary highs and heartbreaking lows. Every experience has shaped the man he is today: resilient, passionate, imperfect, determined, and endlessly willing to begin again.
His story is still being written, both on the Bering Sea and far beyond it. And while nobody knows exactly what the next chapter will bring, one thing remains certain:
No matter how rough the seas become, Captain Jake Anderson will always find a reason to keep moving forward.
